Why position sizing matters Most prop firm accounts are lost to the daily loss limit, not to bad analysis. This calculator checks every trade against your firm’s limits before you place it.

How Your Firm Counts The Daily Limit

Firms count the daily limit in different ways, and the answer is often hidden in the terms and conditions. Search your firm's rules for the words daily loss, equity, balance, floating and reset.

Balance only changes when a trade closes. Equity is balance plus the profit or loss of trades still open, so it moves every second. If a firm uses equity, a trade that is losing for a moment can end your challenge even if it comes back.

The daily reset happens at a set clock time (for example midnight in a certain city, or the platform's midnight). A trade held through the reset takes its floating loss into a fresh day.

If you cannot find the answer, keep the strictest settings already selected. That way the calculator never says you are safe when you are not. Use a free trial to confirm how your firm really behaves.
Note: Leverage does not change your position size or risk. It only affects the margin your broker requires to hold the position. Your position size is always calculated from your risk % and stop distance.

How the calculation works
Position size is determined purely by your risk amount and stop loss distance — not by leverage. Position Size (lots) = (Balance × Risk%) ÷ (Stop Loss Pips × Pip Value per Lot) For standard lots (100,000 units): USD pairs = $10/pip · JPY pairs = ~$9.09/pip · Gold (XAU/USD) = $10/pip per $0.10 move
